Looking for an owners manual for my 1988 Mark ii Catalina 30. By chance, would anyone have a copy? I've looked on as many sites as I could possibly could. Thank you.

Have same boat, if you don't get a link from someone here I will help you. I'll also look at some sites I would suspect might have it. Betting someone here will beat me to it!

Sweet! Thank you. I'm finding portions but nothing complete. Does yours have an AC system?

I looked at the Catalina30Internatilonal site but just found a parts manual in the library, Ebay had nothing as well.

I have a 1988 Mark II and I do not know if an AC system back then was a factory option. You could go to the International site and the parts manual to see if it has anything if thats exactly what your seeking.

Interesting that the factory said no to having an owners manual. You could call several dealers around the country who might know of one, especially one from a salvaged vessel from Hurricane Sandy.

If you need anything in the interim the gang here can help you out. ;)

The C30 Association website is very thorough, although it is missing the basic owners manual.

I did note, however, on the Technical page (http://www.catalina30.com/TechLib/technical.htm) a link to our C34 FAQ page.

If you can't find a C30 Owners Manual, I recommend you download our C34 Manual. Why? 'Cuz the boat SYSTEMS are essentially the same, only the locations have changed.

Start here, on our C34 Tech wiki. You can find manuals of all kinds, as well as specific engine, electrical and all other systems:

http://www.c34.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Good luck, and let us know if there's anything else, or something more specific you need.

and I am still willing to copy ours if needed. We do not have AC.
We have a few notebooks on board:
- one is all tech talk articles, and those are amazingly helpful for so many things.
- another is systems and parts identified. (sorry, not sure if this is 'the manual' )
- last one is engine manual Universal XP25

I saw lots of references to tech-talk and the full manual for sale at the Cat. 30 Assoc. site........ its worth the $35.
As Stu and Bob said, just tell us what you are looking for if it's specific and we can get that info to you pretty quickly.

Good ideas. FWIW, I've read every Tech talk article on ALL of the larger Catalinas since the 1987 articles (I developed the C34IA Tech Notes Index and worked to get those online for our C34IA members, since our PO left us ALL the Mainsheet magazines). But I just gotta tell ya, the C30 Tech talk was basically inadequate when it came to electrical systems. It also, as far as the M25 engine was concerned, pushed the use of the decompression lever far more than many of us felt is ever necessary. Perhaps this was because of the poor electrical systems information? :) Max Munger did a yeoman job as Tech Editor, but he did it for so long, by himself, that I think he might have been overwhelmed by the expanded use of electricity in boats.

The newer website-based technical information for electrical and engine systems on this website (Maine Sail's Featured Contributor Musing with Maine Sail), and the C34 and C36 websites is simply far superior and up to date.

I am getting my wonderful Island Jewel in shape and want to have all the details at my fingertips including specific dimensions for my boat. The Cat34 manual would be helpful I'm sure but not correct dimensions on some things. I have printed the engine manual and tech sheets. I can order the manual but was checking to see if anyone knew if it was offered online as so many others are but not the Cat30. I also was figuring out the AC system and its wiring. It's working nicely from shore power. Can an inverter be installed for ac offshore? Thanks for your help. My husband passed away 4 yrs now. I'm trying to hold on to my sailboat and learn to sail, maintain and enjoy independently...I really like her! I know quite a bit but want to understand it all. :)

Glad to hear you're keeping the boat, sorry to hear about your husband.

1. As I mentioned earlier, the systems are the same, but think of this: you have the boat right there, and could measure all the dimensions yourself. Additionally, you can print out the C30 brochure and scale off any dimensions you need.

2. Inverters: yes, you certainly can. The most important decision you'll have to make is whether or not you want to have the inverter power all of your A.C. outlets or whether you want to simplify by using the receptacles that are built in to some inverters. Not only is this a decision as to how you want to run your boat, but also one that will affect what inverter you end up buying. I've owned 3 different Catalina's & none of them ever came with the owner's manual.

If anyone finds one for the C 30 that is free for downloading, let us know.

Thanks in advance.

Catalina 30 owners manual is listed on Catalina Direct website.

I'm curious where you found that for the Cat. 30... I find it for Cat 28 Mark ll. Nothing on the Cat. 30 and in particular Mark ll. I will be looking into copying our manual (if we actually have one, think we do!!) if what you are saying is not actually there. Thanks for any direction you can add. :)

Catalinadirect.com then click on Catalina 30. It does not give an option for selecting a specific year.

OK, I see the Catalina 30 manual but it doesn't specify Mark ll, gotcha.
I will continue to see if we have the actual Mark ll manual and will post here if we do. Thanks for clarifying npettett.

Ok, brought our note booked manual home to print if needed but Art reminds me that it is not EXACT to our boat so I am guessing it is the "CATALINA 30 manual" that's at Catalina Direct.

If there is any particular system anyone is needing I'd be happy to scan just those and pass on. The manual says 1985 and ours is 1988.
Still it's a huge help.

That's a very kind offer, Luz.

Going back to one of my earlier posts on this thread, IIRC there are a LOT of pages of the Catalina manuals that are not really boat specific and cover almost all makes and models of Catalinas. Examples would be: maintenance, startup, layover, rigging, tuning the rig (masthead Catalinas with single spreaders are all the same, for instance), and perhaps stuffing boxes.

For those issues, the C30 skippers could just as well use our C34 online manual.

What is really helpful would be the C30-specific material. That would include things like:

--- electrical (AC and DC)
--- plumbing
--- rigging, shroud and mast lengths, standing & running rigging specs

I'll bet if you scanned those in and made a PDF of it, it might make a file size small enough to be able to post on this forum, or somewhere on this site (with Phil's help) so you could "send" (or link) to it when this question inevitably comes up again, since it's nowhere else on the internet.

That would be a great service to the Catalina 30 community.

Nice offer.

Mutual admiration Mr. Jackson!

I will see how many pages that turns out to be and try to do that. It would surely have been valuable to us if we'd not had this manual. My scanner is very cranky these days so its one page at a time currently. I could also take it in and have it done really quickly and that would be easy! Stay tuned C30 peeps!
