This year my radar wouldn't work after connecting the mast wires.

It's a Raytheon R70 (green CRT) with an 1800W radome.

I may have done something - I initially had the purple/gray signal pair reversed. Seconds after power up I get a "SCANNER NOT RESPONDING" message on the screen.

Searching around for used radomes it occurred to me it might be better to just replace it.

Any recommendations for a radar for a 36' sailboat, coastal cruising?

Also, any ideas on where to start looking to potentially repair my existing system?

Thanks,

jv

Raymarine

I would call Raymarine and ask what they charge to check and than how much to repair if it still is not out of production and can be repaired.
Than I would look on E-Bay under Raymarine search and look for radar that will work to replace what you have and also ask Raymarine what models will work with what you have for reading the radar chartplotter or wwhat ever you have.

If they are willing to repair it (and they DO stop repairing old units), Raymarine will charge a fixed price of about 1000-1200 bucks.

And you then still have a 13yr old radar on which you depend for safety...

I have a Raymarine radar with cabling that I would like to sell. Had intended to install on my Catalina 30, but changed my mind . Pathfinder 2KW, prod code M92650. 18in dome. Reply to crllc.jm@gmail. com

Raymarine new radars

Does anyone know if Raymarine systems still require a bunch of wires to the radome, or have they switched to Ethernet or something similar?

Re: Raymarine new radars

The new Raymarine scanners use RJ45 Ethernet cable and a 2 wire power cable.

No, it is in a single cable that is split at the display and with a plug at the scanner.

Thanks. Yes, this is progress! I don't want to interrogate you on this, I'll search for the Raymarine docs. I'm also looking at the B&G and Lowrance systems.

So, no luck after re-doing all the connections at the base of the mast, so I'm looking for a used radome, assuming that's the culprit.
