Fix was easy of course. Auto parts store heater hose setting me back $2.97 with tax.
I hope you got the correct hose because it doesn't sound like it from the cost. I don't know the details of your setup but typically you need high burst strength wet exhaust hose for that connection. You may even need wire reinforced depending on the setup. That usually starts at $6 a foot.

Also, if this hose was original (or at least in very poor condition), I would immediately inspect all your hoses before you take the boat out again. Chances are that you need to replace more than just this hose.

Don't forget the hose clamps too. More often than not, they are the cheap perforated style rather than the ABA heavy duty style.

Good luck,

Jesse

Thanks, Jesse. The oriignal (I think 3/8-1/2 ID)was most certainly not reinforced, but your points are all valid for sure. I have replaced some exhaust hoses over the years, but will go back and have a look at everything. You are also right about the perf style clamps. They chew the hose to pieces which is pretty self-defeating!

Have now pulled the end cap off the HE. 3-4 bits of impeller teeth there so that was a good thing to do. Will also do a ream job on the tubes. Expect I will see cooler operation and should have done this earlier. Live and learn.....

Ream job? I recommend you do some reading on MaineSail's site about cleaning the HE.

Yes, that is very good. Thanks. I will be pulling the HE and getting to a radiator shop end of season, but for now I am making sure the ports are all open, junk at the cap end is removed, elbows clear etc....and watching my operating temps of course.

As noted, the HE will come out in the fall, but for now, removing 3 broken impeller teeth and clearing one of the passages made a whale of a difference. At 4/5 throttle I am now 20 degrees cooler and where the engine should be temperature wise. Lesson learned: If you have a pump with missing teeth, get to the HE for clean out. Even if you don't, pulling the end cap(s) and having look takes just seconds. Watching my temps carefully was the tip off, but I am hopefully smarter now.
