Just in case you're having leaks.

Most of the leaks of this era style boat is the sealant at the joint. Lewmar had a maintenance note on their website.

I thought that I had a problem with the O Rings and the gasket because that's where the water looked like it was coming through.

When I re-sealed the joint all leaks stopped.

The O rings you can get at your local hardware store.

Joker,

I have sealed those two joints as noted in your picture and also sealed around the edge of the portlight but still get leaks. A few ounces in a heavy rain or even sometimes from washing the boat. I have taken the inner rings off and sealed the bolts and that doesn't seem to do much. I was going to try and take the portlights off and re-seal, but was not sure how to pry them off or even if that is the problem.

Any other ideas?

We had a leaking opening port and Sunbrella DIY port covers seem to have solved the problem.

Although another seemingly obvious problem we had was that there are two positions for latching the ports. One locks the port closed the other leaves the port slightly open. Before using port covers we one time erroneously latched the ports in the later position and ended up water that we at first thought was a leak.

@ cymeyer

It seems you've covered most of the items.

Before you try to remove the outer frame, have you tried using Capt. Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure around the frame edge. It might help. I used that stuff around the fixed top ports and it solved those leaks.

Have you identifed exactly where the leak is coming in from? I know that can be tough to locate.

Good luck

Joker,
I have not tried the Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure but I will.
All I know is that it drips into the electrical panel and the window is right above the leak. Last year, I sealed it up good and seemed to keep it dry. Wet again this year. These windows are quite the pain. I even had a friend who drilled holes (from the outside) on the bottom of the trim rings and filled them with caulk. I tried that too.

They are just a bad design. It should not be this hard!

Joker,

Intersting. Do you have a link (or details on repair); I found a small FAQ on port leaks but it did not mention that joint.

No problem.

@ Jackdaw

The link to the lewmar site disappeared when they updated their website last year.

If you drop them an email they might respond.

What it basically stated was to dig out the sealant, clean area, Tape off, Use a sealant to fill.

This stops the leaks that appear at the latch inside. The water runs through that area in the circle, then proceeds through the extrusion and out the weeping hole where the latch pocket is.
