I found the 2 vendors on this site that sell cockpit cushions. Any feedback from anyone with experience dealing with the vendors or the quality of the cushions?

Or any other options out there?

Thanks,
Jim

Don't know what your cockpit lockers arrangement is, just an idea to consider.

It's YOUR butt(s), so I would suggest you try and find local examples of the different materials you are considering and try them out before you buy. As mentioned in the link, I found Bottomsiders too darn hard for my liking, but some like them because they're essentially waterproof. Lots may depend on where you sail (PNW rain vs SF Bay no rain in the summer weather), as well as what you like to see.

There was a thread on this just last week.

Happy hunting.

Hi,
I got tired of having to take in the original cushions every time it rained; they do absorb water and get moldy. I purchased Bottom Siders and am happy with them. They will probably ask you to measure the dimensions of your seats but they do have the proper dimensions on record and my seats fit perfectly. They are not quite as soft as the originals as they are made of closed cell foam, but they get the job done. I never remove them no matter the weather. By the way, the (blue) striping on the cushions will smear if you touch them with DEET so be aware. In cold weather the top of the cushions will pucker but no real problem. I did see another manufacturer's cushions at the boat show and they also looked fine. Their surface was a bit more shiny for whatever its worth. I bought Bottom Siders because of their reputation.

Looks like the 7-piece Bottomsiders set is $200 more than the "SunSure" set. I routinely pull the ones I have now (not sure what type they are...but pretty sure they are not BottomSiders) off and stow them down below. So stowing them is not a big issue for me.

I checked with a canvas/cushion guy in the local area about recovering what I got. His estimate was $50 per foot as a "ball park" figure. So this was probably going to be a $600+ job and that was for "single piping". And would be cushion less for 2-3 weeks probably.

Just more to think about.

Cheers,
Jim

If you routinely stow your cushions, then open cell foam will probably be more comfortable than the closed cell Bottom Siders.. My original open cell foam cushions would absorb water if it rained and get moldy. I was sailing in the rain, I would have to keep them inside.
