Hello,Been out of sailing a while and just got a 1973 Oday 22 still in the water. overall pretty good shape. This question may have been posted before so please excuse if it has. I am converting a power boat trailer to put the Oday on. It will have a keel board so what may the specs be for the bunks starting with height form keel board? It does not have to be exact just have to get it a few miles where I can than set it correct. Thanks for any response. Russ

I just did this for a 222. Similar, but it will be different. I found some drawings that showed the bunks at approx 13 inches higher than the bottom of the keel, spaced about 27 inches at the front, 42 inches at the back. Bunks are 8 feet long centered approx amid ship.

Of course, it had to be breezy that day, difficult to get the boat onto the trailer straight. I wish I had installed side bunks to center the fin keel, they will definitely be in place before we take her out again. Spent a while re-adjusting bunks after pulling out, dropping mast, tying down the boat. All went well.

Good luck.

I converted a powerboat trailer to sailboat trailer for my 23'. Check out my video about it on youtube. Is there a boat lift where you are at? They can get it in the lift, and while its in the slings, place it down on your keelboard. Then, you raise up your side boards, and then lock them in place. Then, remove the slings and secure your boat with all of your lockdown straps. It should only take about 1/2 hour to adjust the side borads, maybe less. Have them attached, but loose. Hammer them up and then tighten them down!

Thanks for the info. I will be pulling the boat next Saturday. One more question. Is the 27 and 42 inch spacing from keel center to each support or total width between bunks? Thanks you have been a great help. Russ miller

27 between the bunks at the front, 42 at the rear, measured to the insides of the bunks. The bunks are centered lengthways about midway along the keel.

The bunk struts I have U bolt clamped to the crossmembers. At the ramp, during haulout, because the boat wouldnt come on square, it pushed my port bunk over at the front. It didnt retract, it just moved aside. I was able to pull it back with a ratchet strap, but once I have the boat on the trailer the way I want it, I will weld them in place.

Try to think about all that could go wrong at the ramp that first time with a new trailer, and plan accordingly. ratchet straps, come alongs, extra rope, jacks, tools, you wont regret having the most mundane item along if you need it.
