I just put together some conpanionway doors for my 430 that turned out kind of cool..........I used star board and had the guy that cut my floor, cut the doors....
i also installed a new tank monitor and its sensors (from this site) that worked out well....
as well as my new stair treads.....made of composite board...

along with some dinner and we stayed on the boat.......it was a good weekend:)

Hi Navicula do you have any problem with water staying on each side of the companionway anddraining in the cockpit instead of forward.
Thanks

No we dont............however.....we may get a few drips in a heavy rain with wind.....which still bothers my wife and she wants me to address it.....(and I do with a dry cloth).
;)

your track system seams to be a bit different than mine

if you need any more photos or if I have not answered your question.....just ask away...............

Top Sliding

What is your top compionway top slider made of,I would like to add something to my tinted sliding top of compionway cover to block out the sun and thinking of some thing that would just stick to the plastic cover I have and it is tinted but the sun is very bright and Hot here in Florida.

its still the tinted thick plastic that came with the boat............I covered it with adhesive mesh....I have a friend that works for a large format printing operation......he printed the name of the boat with the logo and the words.....do not step.....on it and it peels and sticks on........it also reduces the sun light a bit more..........same product they use on vehical wraps

Thanks Naviculas. Mine is more then a few drop. Went the forward water tank is full all the water stay on the starbord side. What do you have for anchor rode. Is it mostly chain? If I drop weight in the anchor looker it may drop the bow down enough to have the water drain forward.
Thanks for your input.

Nice job. Do you have a way to secure the doors in the open position? Your pic isn't quite wide enough to show.

Hi Navicula,

Nice job. Could you please share dimentions/diagrams of the parts. I think it would fit the 40.5 . As for the piano hinge, i believe you could countersank the screw holes into the side of the board and keep them out of sight!?

Thank you very much

i have nothing on paper.....these doors fit right into the track that the old plastic slats slid into............so the slats are the template....and that is what determines the thickness of your material (doors) is.

when i had my guy cut the doors out........i had him put an offset lip all around.....so that weather would find it hard to get inside.........the rest like size and shape of the windows are up to the boater....

My doors are held open....

...using clear plastic exterior Velcro fasteners. The attached picture was taken before I added the Velcro. I designed the doors so they would fit flat against the sides of the companionway. I affixed a square of Velcro to each door where it would best contact a flat part of the side. I did have to attach the Velcro to the starboard doors with a small screw recessed into the Velcro as the Velcro doesn't stick well to the starboard. The Velcro sticks just fine to the sides. They stay open stuck to the sides while sailing.

PS: To those considering doing this, I was able to attach my doors just outside the hatch board track so I can actually put the hatch boards in when I am leaving the boat for an extended period or in a marina where a little extra security appears warranted.

Source of the adhesive mesh?

Navicula: The adhesive mesh on the hatches is a nice idea. Can you advise where one would get some of it? Thanks!
