Hi -

The salon table in the H36 seems to be a tad small for entertaining - and the port side is essentially useless since it "ends" at the midpoint of the salon.

Is there an extension or extra "leaf" available to make the table larger ?

I am surprised that there is not a folding extension that flips out from the port side of the table to increase the size when required.

I'm not a woodworker, so this would have to be something pre-made that I would install.

I didn't see any reference to this from searching the forums or the SBO store.

Suggestions ?

We haven't worked on table upgrades but we've had about three inquiries exactly like this over the past week! I guess we should. :)

Until we get our act together try http://www.cruisingconcepts.com. Mike won't be inexpensive but he does amazing work.

Interesting

We don't seem to entertain on our boat as most times we seem to join in on other boats with our sailing club, but now and than we do take turns having other boaters on our boat for games and may be interested in adding a leaf like your idea.
Can't remember what boat we saw the leaf idea and ddid like it for sure, some have made the 356/36 table smaller and that might be a good idea and than haave the leaf when more table is needed.
I think a good wood worker or cabinet maker could help you out also and if you do make kind of upgrade let us know here for sure.

What do you mean to small.... heck its to big! Make me a smaller table made that pivots around the post w/ maybe a small leaf and you can have mine even the junk collecting cabinet around the post is yours.
Here are two pictures one is of what I have now on my 356 and then here is a picture of what I think is a better one on a newer 36 .... but the table is still to big!

Hunter had an option for a fold down add-on leaf to extend the table towards the port settee. It wasn't on the earlier 356, maybe came out with the first 36s. I was tempted to order one and adapt it but got sidetracked....
Phil or anyone else, if you have drawings for the boats after the 356 you might have drawings of the extension. I expect a number of us would be interested

I think the European 356 with the bilge keels had a table like the one you want. The pictures below come from the 356 owners mods section. It looks like you only get seating for one extra person though because of the clearance needed to slide in when the leaf is down.

A good local woodworker might be a good bet. Once you show him these pictures he will have the idea. It could be a good winter project, you could take the table out next fall he would have all winter to build it. You might look at Lee Valley store bulletin board for local woodworkers able to do this type of thing.

good luck, Bob
