Have to do my yearly (only 2nd actually) migration from queens to west 79th st this Sunday. Only factor is need to leave worlds fairs marina at high tide.

Although have passed through HG many times without incident and think have my plan for this one, however curious to hear others.

It can be an exciting ride! We clocked 10+ knots SOG on one trip, flying past whirlpools and other interesting stuff. Another time we hit at slack tide, and had an uneventful passage. We usually consult the Coastal Pilot and Waterway Guide to time our arrival at Battery Park or Throg's Neck to best catch slack tide at Hell Gate.

Roger has made the trip a few times, I went through with him his first couple trips. It isn't too bad at all, if you time it right. I would suggest you leave Worlds Fair at or after slack CURRENT not slack tide (pick up an eldridge, or look at current charts on something like Navionics to see the difference). Since you're going to be heading up the Hudson, I would be looking to leave well into the ebb and no more than 2.5 hours before the flood current starts, that way you don't get through the east river, only to battle the ebb the whole way up the Hudson.

"Prob from the excitement to get on the water" just fun to plan given the variables of the high tide requirement, hell gate and up the Hudson.
