The cold water input connector for the hot water heater seems to have failed. It is no longer gripping the water line so that water spurts out when the pump runs.

I have the replacement part (image attached), but can't get the original off of the water heater. Any suggestions? Would love some advice. :bang:

Thx,
Swan

Swan ... to make thing easier unscrew the nib fitting out of the water heater. Remember your rightie tightie and lefty lucy...Now you can get a better look at what you have. Own mine it had and old style male pex nib fitting that screwed into water heater the the other end was for typical pex. One piece...It came out trashed and was impossible to find a replacement with the male thread. So I made up your standard plumbing screw in replacement with generous room to work then the turn made with elbow . Use your standard plumbers tape on all threads just like home. Found a std thread female one end pex new style other end. Did not have to go to the 400% needless mark up store.
A while back I had a similar frustrating experience with my water heater old style pex connections too! Not fun!......Found out once the end of a pex line has been squeezed into a compression fitting, then thats it. Hopfully you have some extra pex line in the run. You will have to cleanly cut the end off leaving no scratches scuffs or marks. That can also be true for the rubber "O" ring inside the fitting. Again all surfaces must be clean and smooth....
For removal now this can be tricky... Took me awhile to get the hang of it. Take note of the outer loose like ring on the fitting. Firmly grab it and pull it back this should then release the internal compressing ring that is squeezing the "O" ring around the pex tubing. Then the end of the pex should release.
They now make a more friendly type of pex fitting. Its easier and more reliable to work with. It seems when ever I get a leak in my water pressure system its on the hot side of water heater. Last year was the last time I had a leak, used the new type of fitting. It went off without a hitch. Of course by now I now have had to splice in another 8"s of pex to reach the water heater. The new style pex replacement fittings plus experience made this go around a little less knucle busting and stressful.

Thanks guys. A little finger muscle gave me just barely enough leverage to get behind the press tab. Got the sucker off. Put new one on and it gripped the water line no problem.

All is good once again. Really appreciate the support. Have a great sailing season.
