OK I feel pretty stupid but I have these dome lights in my cabin and head. I want to change them out to LED's but I cannot figure out how to remove the cover. Can you take the lens off or do I have to remove it from the overhead.

Here is a picture. It is approximately 4-3/4" in Diameter.

Thanks for your help with this....

In most cases if you get a small screwdriver between the lens and the base you can pry them off. Sometimes takes running the drivr around the edge to find a tab to push. Good luck.

I'm sure the lens can be removed, with the right leverage/twist. G'luck.

cabin light lens removal

I just reached up with both hands and popped the lens off. The switch will fall out. The switch will hold itself up if you press it in place correctly.;)

Thanks all for the suggestions. I found that the lens would turn a little bit and I was afraid to pry it off for fear I would use to much force. I will be heading back up in the next few days and will give it a try with a small screw drive.

Really really thank you for the LED bulb suggestions that is exactly what I was going to do.

I have a few other fixtures that I want to change out as well but I was able to get the bulbs out of them without to much problem.

I would like to change out one of my fluorescents as well to LED's. Has anyone done that yet? If so what did you think? Was it worth the change?

I just did that last month. Marinebeam was the source. 1.2A to 0.5 A or something like that. Yes, it's worth it if you have an old fluorescent like we did, maybe not so much if yours is still in fine shape, check your energy budget. I switched to LEDs for those few lights I use regularly, all the rest are either still halogen or incandescents, 'cuz we rarely use electric light except for the V berth and the galley. Our trawler lamp serves us very well. Your boat, your choice.:)

Will the Sensibulb work in these fixtures? It looks as if the pin arrangement is different (g4 vs wedge or T10).

Leds

I did change all my interior bulb's to Led's and just looked on the internet for best price but don't go too cheap because they fall apart easy but did not go with the high $$$$ either and did not change out my 3 flouresnt and not think the high price was worth it and mine are in the head liner and too much trouble to get the right fit.
I have 2 big solar panels and they do a great job of keeping batteries well charged so I can waste some 12 volt's with some of the Fluorresent light which we like thelight from them and most times don't have all 3 on any way,one day soon I will change the Anchorlight to Led.
Yes those light lenses are a real pain to get off and also was afraid of breaking them but turn aand use a small tiny screw driver to pop off.
So many different types of Led's to choose from.
