I moved the factory located vent on my hunter out of the cockpit and only flush with fresh water from the shower head. Never leave any poo or pew in the line to holding tank.

Did you do new vent line and new pumpout wasted line too ?
What brand of waste line is it?

This stuff works for any residual odor, I have read Peggy's post where '' if it still smells, you missed a spot''
http://shop.hunterowners.com/prod.php?15542/K.O. Kills Odor
Thank's for your reply but,, yes all pipe are new, including the pumpout and the vent,,
The Brand I can't tel you what it is at this time but the construction of it, is of a plastic tefflon inside, rubber outside and metal reinforce ,,at the time the marine salesman had the choice in between two type ,I tooked the best one of the two...made for marine HEAD,,
Thank's for the info on the KO product

I had the same problem on my previous Catalina 36 - flushing the toilet with hot water after the end of the sailing day by connecting the inlet toilet flushing hose with a valve plus check valve to the hot water system solved the problem.

May be cumbersome but worked! On my hunter 45CC we flush only with clean water - no smell!

Good luck!

Water Spray

I have a spray hose like in the kitchen counter next to the toilet and it is hooked up to the fresh water hose under the sink and use that for flushing with fresh water and it does make a difference for smell and less repair of the head.

Do not use hot water ! It will melt away the water proof grease used in the heads manuel pump. Use only cold water!!

Thank's for your reply ,,to me at this point,, it is worth a try ,,but I was wandering if it is possible that the smell is cause by blow back in the u shape pipe that goes up from the pumpout and down to the tank???

Thank's for your reply ,,but at this point ,I have to try other ways because fresh water is what i used all the time ,,but I am thinking that the smell could be a slow blow back from the U shape pipe that goes from the pumpout up and back down to the tank????

You could be on to something??...The smell maybe coming from the vent loop for the raw water intake. I always keep head in dry mode and use fresh water only from the shower head to flush. Plus I always make sure to pump enough fresh water down the line so there is never any poo or pee left in the lines. And as I said before I moved the holding tank vent away from the dumb ass factory original location...The cockpit:soapbox:......If you are using the raw water intake to pump dirty sea water thru your head then maybe the vent for the vent loop needs to be move somewhere else. Like not venting it down below and into the cabin.

KO is one product recommended by Peggie. We use Odorloss, also recommended and works great.

Could it be lake water bacteria. I flush with onboard freshwater, not lake water. That water that sits in the waste tank, if not pumped out, can foster a bad oder over a short period of time, especially in hot weather. Just a thought.
