I am new to the forum and new as in brand spanking new to sailing so I will be asking lots of questions (some probably stupid). I just bought my first boat, a 1980 27' Hunter. Am actually driving to British Columbia on Sat. to see her for the first time and pay for her. She is in a fresh water lake with ocean access (Harrison lake) and I am just so excited. I have to find someone to get sailing lessons but that's a bit hard in Alberta where I live. Any way, just wanted to say hello.

Troy, welcome to the forum. No such thing as a stupid question. We all have to learn this stuff sometime, we're not born with all the knowledge :D

My favorite teacher once told me, "the only stupid question is the one not asked" welcome to sailing and fair and following winds.

If you are going to keep her there, check to see if there is a yacht or boating club. That's a great place to pick up both sailing and maintenance instruction. Have fun and keep us up to date on your progress.

Troy;

I just finished restoring a 1983 Hunter 27 for the Boy Scouts. If you need any help, just let me know at davecondon@mindspring.com. The engine is a 7.8 hp 1 gm Yanmar engine for reference when ordering parts for servicing the engine.

Troy, HAPS has a dedicated forum on this site. Click directly on forums and scroll all the way down and then click on HAPS. You will see our rendezvous schedule for the year and other info.

Again congratulations and welcome.

Do not ignore the note from Dave Condon, a tremendous resource.. He has been very helpful to me.

Troy, check for a user on Sailnet.com by the name of jackdale. He is a CYA instructor from Calgary. He could probably help you out with lessons or point you in the right direction.
