O'Day 222 Swim Ladder

I should putting my "new" 222 in the water for the season in about a month. Since the boat is "new" to me, I've been putting together a list of pre-launch modifications. One is a swim ladder. I'd like some info on the size of the original swim ladder - number of rungs, total length, length below the waterline, etc.

I am considering a 3 or 4 step collapsable ladder, with standoffs. Any suggestions on what will work best will be appreciated.

It seems many people fabricate a wood step to go on the round treads - they are tough on feet as just the 1" tubing... I talked to Plasteak about having them make me some, but I had no measurements at the time. I may just buy some 5/8" teak and make my own. I want to use 2 hole clamp style, so that I don't have to drill holes into the tubular steps. I would have semicircular holes cut in the ends to fit the vertical members to prevent the step from rotating. http://www.mcmaster.com/#two-hole-cable-straps/=lw124q

Brian -- Thanks for the info. I've looked at ladder on the DR Marine site. It is nice, but as you mentioned, the tube can be rough on your feet.

In thinking about your idea of using teak, I thought that Trex or one of the other synthetic woods used for patio decks might work too -- without the oiling or varnishing. I'm going take a look as some next time I make a trip to the hardware store.

Dale, do some searching here or in the Daysailers forum - there have been discussions of synthetic products within the past month or so. I looked as some of the products at the Home Depot, I don't care for anything with wood chips mixed in with the plastic. Doesn't look very nice to me.

When I talked to Plasteak, it was in the first half of the winter, and they suggested I get my order in soon. (Back when I had limited/no access to the boat for measurements.) Now, with the boat in the back yard, it's probably too late, as they are in the thick of the season trying to get custom orders finished.

There was another product mentioned. Home Depot sells it as primed white trim products, but they also make wood colored products that would need to be ordered from a lumber yard. The name escapes me right now, but go searching and you'll find that thread...
