DIY Front Hatch

The froward hatch on my Cal 27 has disintegrated, and I want to build a new one. Anyone know of any plans or tips on building one?

Got one tip- wood expands and contracts much more across the grain than with the grain.

Try Don Casey's book: This Old Boat. The second edition IIRC is newer and I don't know if it is as good as the first edition which I do have, but the old first edition had a good writeup.

I never knew a Catalina 27 hatch fit a Cal 27 nor would I have ever expected it. You learn something new every day.
