Zincs

Consider putting one near each hinge of your rudder, and one close to the Combi - use a ring zinc for this.

Does anyone know where you are supposed to put the sacrificial zinc anodes
on the Vegas? ... particularly with the volvo penta MD6A engine and combi
prop.

Thanks in advance,

I keep one zink on the shaft right in front of the prop, plus another
big hull anode (outside)
near the front end of the engine. (if you have a sleeve + shaft (combi
prop), you can't have
the zink in front of the prop.)

Hi gentlemen,

Whereever you put your sinc annodes just keep in mind that they have
to make good electrical contact to the material that you want to
protect.
To mount a piece of sinc on the polyester is useless.
If you mount a sinc ring on your propshaft you will protect your
prop and your shaft.
If you mount pieces of sinc on your ruddershaft it will only protect
your rudder and all the pieces that are electrically connected.
All other pieces which are electrically isolated are not included.
Keep in mind that problems occur when you have connected different
types of metal. Like bronze and stainless or steel. It is called
galvanic corrosion based on the difference of potentials.
In combination with water it works like an ordinary battery.
In a battery they use lead which dissolves in an accid. If you use a
sinc this will dissolve in the water instead of your precious
proppelor.

If I may add to this:

For saltwater use a zinc anode

For Sweetwater use an alu anode

My father swears by his magnesium anodes (these are mounted on wire ends
welded to his steel hull, he changes them easily but these is an annual
thing) but I also know of people swearing at them... paint falling off the
hull etc.

On the Drivfjäder we have a little alu ring anode mounted (very thin) just
behind the prop, leaving enough room for waterflow to the rubber
end-bearing. This one lasts for about two years, so I think it does has a
job...

Have a great weekend all!
