I have a 10 year old Z-Spar in mast furling system on my Beneteau OC281. The furler works ok but I have the mast down for the winter and decided to remove the furling reel and the halyard swivel for cleaning/maintenance. Anyone had any experience with this project and can yo provide any suggestions? Thanks Bill

If it's not broken ...

don't fix it. :) Getting to the bearings and halyard swivel is more that a few minutes work. The sail has to come off and there there should be access plates that allow you do get to the shackles to remove the sail. The bearing carrier at the gooseneck is held in by bolts through the gooseneck fitting. I'm not sure how far you have to take the unit apart to get the bearing out of the mast, but the last time I changed out a furling line it didn't look easy. The extrusion may have to be separated from the bearing/line drum to get it out. It's not rocket science, just fussy. Have fun! Randy
