I have a yanmar YSE12 1975 vintage. We motor a lot because of the creek we are on in the Chesapeake Bay. Right now there is no muffler and the exhaust runs directly from the exhaust elbow out the transom just above the water line. I would like to quiet the engine exhaust noise it is very loud. Is there a muffler application that will work for this boat and engine? I think the wet exhaust hose is 2" or so. I was hoping there would be an inline muffler that I could just install in the existing wet exhaust. Thank you for replys Barry Genesis

Hunter 30 exhaust

The exhaust system that you describe is generally termed a no-no. There should be some sort of water accumulation device between the water inlet to the exhaust and the overboard discharge. I was fairly certain that Hunter used a water-lift muffler If its not there, it should be.There are several on the market. Vetus puts out a good one that we sell for only $63.50. The exhaust should exit the engine and go down to the muffler with the cooling water being introduced in that leg. After the muffler, the exhaust hose should go straight up, as high as possible, and then go downhill to the through hull.
