All the talk about "white sails" and YRA got me to thinking I should post my adventures last weekend.
I crewed last weekend on a friend's Islander 30 "Mas Tiempo" for the YRA season closer and had a blast.....Dave has the boat set up with "white" sails and a furling jib with no spinnaker so we were a bit behind the guys with the racing sails...
The weather report for Saturday called for 8 to 10knts of wind with gusts to 14.....We got past Angel Island and it was blowing a steady 20 with gusts to 23 with swells coming in under the Golden Gate. We actually had the rail in the water a couple of times on a close reach....We didn't do too bad considering we were grouped with the I36's.....Sunday it was a bit calmer, but the course was a lot longer....We had to sail a figure 8 around Angel and Alcatraz Islands then return to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiberon. What made it exciting was the skippers had a choice of taking the first Island either to port or starboad, which meant those that chose a different route crossed in the slot with all the traffic there...Pretty exciting at times.....I can't really say how we finished, because we had to get back home, over 2hrs away, although I do know we finished in front of a couple of I36's.....
The sailing was great although very wet (it rained a little on Sunday) I got to have dinner at the Corinthian Yacht Club Saturday night because we rafted up there, I'd never been inside before, it was quite a treat...I'm already looking forward to next year!
