I'm planning two big upgrades this offseason: an electric windlass and an inverter/charger. Here are some prices for the same component from different sources: Lewmar Concept 1 vertical windlass with Gypsy and Drum: West Marine: $1859 Sailnet.com: $1616 binnacle.com: $1167 !! Freedom 15 Inverter/Charger West Marine: $1084 Sailnet.com: $1000 Store4Power.com: $720 !! To be fair, the Store4Power.com version of the inverter is refurbished. However, it comes with a 12-month replacement warranty. What a difference. Thanks to those here on the site who pointed me to store4power.com. Any other similar tips are more than welcome! Check This Inverter Source

If you're looking for just an inverter (not an inverter/charger combo), check out my posting on the forum last week. To find it, click on the archive search tab at the top-right corner of the forum home page, click on Current Discussion Fourums, type in "Interesting Inverter Source" and then click on Match All Words.

West Marine

When I bought my Force Ten stove West Marine wanted $1600.00 Sailnet (used to be JSI) wanted $1130.00 I went to the local West Marine store and offered them $1000.00 cash. I walked out with a brand new stove. Just because there's a price tag on it doesn't mean you can't deal. For the record... the guy behind me in line wanted one, but they told him that was the last one at that price... Give it a try.. Ron/KA5HZV

Windlass and inverter

I put both in my legend 37 over the last few years. The internet is a better source. A company called Imtra of New Bedford, MA has from time to time sold display windlasses through Ebay. I purchased a Lofram Progess II windlass which is a low profile which had a list price of about $1,500 from Imtra for $525. When I got it home I couldn't find a scratch on it. You can also check inverter manufacturer and go to their web sites. Many sell, at a discount, factory reconditioned inverters. The price difference might be something you might consider. The money I saved on the windlass allowed me to purchase radar for my boat. Good luck,
