Whats the most elaborate meal you or your crew has prepared on your boat?

A beautiful rack of lamb, a Thanksgiving turkey, perhaps a remarkably fresh ceviche? Or is your crowning achievement a warm can of beans?

Share your galley experiences and post a photo of your favorite meals aboard.

My best meal underway was a filet of beef with roast potatoes (and broccoli?). It was served to the crew the second night out on a Newport-Bermuda race aboard Seguin, a bright-finished S&S 42' sloop. We washed it down with a bottle of Bordeaux that we'd been given by French vessel which we'd helped make room for at a crowded Newport marina. Delightful, with the rush of the waves and the glint of the sun dropping into the sea as we reached along at eight knots. We went on to win our division.

Perhaps not the most elaborate, but cabin bread (hardtack) pizzas as we crossed the equator between Hawaii and Tahiti. Canned cheese, canned spaghetti sauce, canned meat, seasonings and, oh yeah, Champagne!
I'd have to go with a kangaroo stew in Arnhem Land, as the oddest.

While my grandson was on his first boat weekend with me, we broke open a can of chili/stew pared with some of my homemade sourdough bread.

The usually food picky 8 year old scarfed it down and asked for more. So I broke out a second can. When he got home he told his mom he loved the canned stew Grandpa has on his boat.

Who knew?
While not the most elegant it got rave reviews.

The idea of “pairing” canned chili made me smile.

I can hear the waiter in my head “… and tonight the chef has paired ripened Vienna sausages with 3-day aged saltines”;)

I'm jealous ... no high cuisine on our boat. Neither Sue nor I are suitable chefs. We barely get by and when we have a taste for something good, we find a restaurant. I swear that someday, I'm going to focus on preparing something to be proud of!

This last season, I cooked a salmon fillet with a maple glaze (Mrs.Butterworth’s) and canned corn for a side. And I think I made a Tanqueray and Tonic to wash it down.

Actually tasted delicious and better than the pulled pork sandwich and beans the night before.

Breakfast is always good on a boat though….egg sandwich and coffee!

Same here. Drinks & dinner at the yacht club. Granola Bars and fruit cups are my go to for breakfast on the boat. Doritos or chips & salsa work for lunch. Occasionally have left over ham & pineapple pizza from the club for breakfast or lunch. I have never even once used the alcohol burning cooktop.

We usually have some good meals In the PNW. stock up on some flank steak and 3” pork loins, and hamburger. Marinate the flank steak with soy sauce and garlic. Same with the pork loins. The pork usually has some ginger included. Barbecue along with some bake potatoes and fix a crab salad. We can also catch dungeness crab and have a crabfest. However, it’s now more cost effective to buy crab from the seafood boat along with some excellent cod and sometimes salmon depending on price. But, pricing is much better than buying retail. We can also go ashore and get clams in season. And, always the select before dinner drinks and wines. That being said, we also do enjoy some special restaurant events.

Many great meals, cedar plank salmon, lamb burgers, tasty breakfasts, but my favourite was a rum cake!
Cheers

Did I just read.
rum cake
Now that sounds interesting. Is this prepared on board or was it cooked ashore? Recipe shared is always fun.

I'd stalk that woman who cooks up Cioppino. Definitely one of my favorite dishes to the point where I've become a Cioppino snob!!!

But, I have to say, after a few days of sailing in heavy, wet and windy weather, accompanied by twin water spouts and hanking on every headsail I owned several times, one of the best meals I have had, as I shivered down below, was a can of hot Dinty Moore Stew and I hate Dinty Moore stew.

Otherwise, I've had some pretty spectacular meals from fish caught while underway, or speared in reefs as well as lobsters.

The weather during our 2019 Canadian Winter Sailing Adventire, aboard Mahalo (@LeslieTroyer's Catalina 36), was to say the least "Most Foul".

The Chef brought out a cup of Chicken hot Ramen to the watch keepers. Talk about delicious.

Then meals were a Simple Fare on board, dinner once we were safely anchored for the evening.
Steak/Salad and Garlic Bread plus a bottle of Red - from Genoa Cellars, WA.

Once back in the USA we found comfort food in Friday Harbor.

Being safely in harbor on the 12th day of our adventure we opted to go ashore for pizza. We had an honored guest at the table, Our SBO dethroned admin Master Phil.

Tuna fish head curry off the south coast of Java.
A shark chomped off rest of the fish as we were hauling it in, so it didn't take much preparing.

Interesting how cooking is still mostly a "pink" job on this forum. Left to cook for themselves, the guys eat beans or something equally simple. To me, good food is one of the luxuries you can bring with you and cooking can help pass the time. When there is much to do, the cooking is simpler.

I don't cruise on the tri, so it's mostly lunch from home and occasionally re-heated left overs. But when I had the cruising cat we about like we did at home, and we split the cooking, like we do at home.
