There's a guy featured on Off Center Harbor who tried to row across the Pacific. He left from Peru or maybe Chile and got to the south seas where he capsized. He was rescued and his "Boat" salvaged. He hung around the atoll awhile. I think he rejoined his journey but my subscription to that site ended and didn't see the rest.
At one point in the voyage, the guy's father was sending him AIS information about fishing fleets on his course. That was a major hazard.
