Yet another Chesapeake Bay pumpout question

So I plumbed and vented my msd port a potty for deck pumpout and I wanted to test it out for leaks or any other problems. Much to my dismay the pumpout at my marina requires an adapter :cussing:. I had no idea there was an adapter, I thought it was all standard So, now that we are planning a fall cruise do I need to buy one of these adapters and carry it with me or do most marinas around the bay have universal fittings on the pumpouts?

This is what you need:

It's a "unversal" fitting"...Buy one and keep it on board.

Yup, I keep a 1.25" adapter on board sealed in a couple of zip lock bags. Some marinas have them but they tend to walk or swim away. Most pumpout stations have a tapered rubber nozzle universal fitting that with some pressure and a little water running around it to form a seal will work fine for a pumpout.

go to WM or one of the local marine supply stores and buy a "Noz-all" adaptor that fits the threads of your deck pump-out fitting (there are 3 different ones). Carry it on the boat at all times!

I have personally seen two instances of the type of rubber "universal" nozzle that Tim shows in his post break loose from the fitting seal and "hose down" the boat owner with the effluent stream that was being drawn out of the holding tank. Both immediately dove overboard to cleanse themselves. The boat clean-up afterward wasn't very pleasant.

The benefit of the Noz-all is that it has a locking ring indent onto which a standard pump-out hose end will snap onto, preventing any break of the connection until the levers are released to unlock it. It also has a thick rubber washer that seals it to the top of the deck fitting when screwed down tight (be careful when threading it on so you don't cross-thread its plastic threads!).

I carry mine in a plastic coffee can, along with a pair of heavy yellow gloves I use to handle it and the pump-out hose. It gets rinsed off after each use!

I had same issue so tried to measure, checked with Tidewater AND Hunter, was assured of the proper size, ordered it from Tidewater ( as Peggy says three choices)

Did all i could to get the right size
Well.....................did not fit
Then ordered the next closest and it fit
At least I did not have to try all three on the boat
Tidewater, as is their ethic, gladly exchanged the wrong for the right so unpack it carefully and make sure it is the right size thread pitch etc
Works great and whereever I go I know my tank can be accessed by the pumpout I find
BTW coffee can a great idea. I buy packs of cheap latex gloves and peel off and throw away after one use

It's truly unfortunate that I've found that after doing the research for folks and GIVING THEM THE LINKS, like doing their homework for them, they STILL DON'T read the links.

Thanks all. I took a look at the link for the adapter and at first I couldn't see how it would work with the pumpout we have but, as Peggy pointed out, the pdf instructions showed that it works with the cam coupling. I just have to figure out which is the right size...

ah...nope! Was speaking from experience. The PDF in your link may explain the product, while I was pointing out the consequences.
