Dear Fellow Sailors:

I am looking for a smaller (2-4 gallon) lower profile yellow poly diesel fuel can. Anyone have any sources for something under 5 gallons.

Thanks,

Greg W.

Have you tried...

...the usual suspects, Walmart, Pep-Boys, NAPA?

Why Yellow?????

I am guessing must be some regulation of some kind that says must use yellow for diesel.
I just recently shopped around for the yellow 5 gallon cans for my trip and don't remember seeing the smaller yellow ones at all, plenty of different size
red ones, can't you use the red and just label them or mark them diesel.

I think the law says that the can must be labeled. If you take a couple of big pieces of yellow tape and write "DIESEL" on them and stick one on each side of the can, you satisfy the rules in most states and the DOT as well. If you call your HAZMAT folks, they may be able to give you more clarity.

I do more or less just what Kloudie 1 suggests, that is, I have marked a 2 gal red poly gas can (much easier to deal with than a 5 gal can) with a black magic marker with the word "diesel" on each side. My guess is that the only people who may be upset at this procedure are the "PillowTag Removal Police."
