Well, if you have a Hull# and a Class# (but no Hull I.D. Number molded into the transom), then you know that your boat is a 1972 or older model ( the 12-digit HIN was required after 01NOV 1972) Some of the 1972 models DID have HINs, but it was not required until the november date.

Anyway, determining that the boat was built prior to November 1972 is easy, what is less precise is determining the exact year of your boat based on the O'Day Hull# and Class#. Do you know what class the boat is? (Mariner, Javelin, Day Sailer, etc) what is the Hull#? What is the Class#?

Hull number is often the best clue for year, since that is based on total O'Day production up to that boat (my circa 1969 Widgeon was H# 22698, that means she was the 22698th O'Day built). Class number helps too, but only if another boat of that class with a known build year can be found with a close Class#, and even then it may be a guess.

Post the Hull# and Class# for us, and we can take a stab at the year. You could also call Rudy at D&R Marine (508) 644-3002, he was the Parts Dept. Manager at O'DAY and now runs a little shop selling O'DAY parts and giving advice on O'DAY questions. He may have a rough listing of typical production years for the history of O'DAY (or at least have more info to estimate years).
