Yard sale bottom paint

Would you use bottom paint that's 7 years old? Its to late for this year but......
I got 2 gal $5 Interlux 4490 ablative copolymer technolgy active ingredient 41.97% cuprous oxide 37.11% elemental copper . It stirred up well and I plan to try it on something to test it. Would you use it?

Take it to your local paint store and have them "shake" the cans for you.

It will probably work better than the new paint you can buy now. More toxic bad stuff in it than is allowed today.

Now I'm wondering if the county paint recycling program down here ever gets bottom paint....hmmm

I would contact Interlux and ask them if it is any good. If they tell you no, then you will probably be wasting your time. On the other hand, if they say YA, you just got yourself a good deal.

Unfortunantly you are out of luck as Interlux 4490 is only good for up to 5 years when used in waters outside of Long Island Sound... If you would like it properly disposed of here in Long Island Sound I'd be happy to assist.

Send it to me and I'll test it out.....my boats in the water for this season but if your willing to wait till next season I'm sure we can work something out....I only need 1 gallon so if its good you'll use the other and if it's bad Ross will take it off your hands

I picked up a can like that a few years ago that had sat on a dealer's shelf so long that the copper content and other solids had become hardened in the bottom. It was very difficult to get the solids to reblend with the liquid remaining that the can only produced about enough true paint to do the keel and rudder on a small boat. Wasn't that much of a bargin after all.
