Hi I have Yanmar 2GM20F on my boat, which is 1995 model. When I start the engine, everything is OK, I raise the RPM up to 2900, have 2-3 motor cruising without any performance loss. However, when I come back to the marina, I see a white smoke at idle RPM (around 900 rpm). When I raise the RPM to 1100-1200 it disappers or when the engine is under load, even with low RPM's there is nothing. Everything seems to be normal with oil and cooling water, same level of oil and no overheating. Has anybody faced the same issue and any ideas, what could be possible root causes? Thanks in advance CEnk C

white smoke

usually white smoke from a deisel is caused from a lack of compression from a sticky valve, broken ring, cracked piston or the like...run some marvel mystery oil in the fuel and some in the crancase as per mfg instructions...hope this helps jsb

seen it before

A friend had this problem, it turned out to be the raw water injection piont in to the exhaust line, in side the pipe and just abouve the injection piont is a small plate with a "V" grove in itwhich was worn out (corroded?). He replaced the pipe and problem solved.
