I was just told that it will cost $2500.00 to rebuild my KBW10 transmission on my 3JH@2E Yanmar.
Is that that realistic or am I taken for a ride here?
The output shaft and some other more major parts have to be changed...I was told.
Has anybody had to re-build his Yanmar transmission?

Have you contacted a dealer/distributor? I think you are looking at about $3600 for a new one. I think I would spend the extra money on a new one vs rebuild.

I think Cascade Engine is the master distributor in your area. You may want to check with them.

Some of the larger Yanmar dealer/distributors have a transmission shop where they do rebuilds. The Yanmar distributor in your area should be able to give you a price on a rebuild transmission plus shipping costs. You may use this as a source of comparison. It is getting harder and harder to find qualified mechanics that would do a partial rebuild and would work with you to keep costs down.

Yes Steve, it is Cascade out of Seattle who provided that price for me.
Now I am just looking around and see if I can find something else. Torrresen's (Toad) price is $3651.44 for a new one.
It seems very "convenient" that the re-build price around 1K less...doesn't it?
Cheers, Gabor

Who gave you the quote? DO NOT have the service department at Point Roberts do any work on your boat. These people are inept and incompetent.
