I have a 1988 Hunter Legend 35 with a Yanmar 3GM diesel. I charter the boat out, and recently a charterer reported that the transmission had intermitently failed to engage in either forward or reverse. A little latter it worked just fine. The linkage is tight, I changed the transmission oil(the old oil looked fine - no bits of metal in it), and everything else looks fine, but the problem seems to persist because another charterer reported the same problem. I'd sure like to hear any suggestions, because no-one I've asked yet can think of why this is happening.
