need to replace the cables. I was just in a "junk" dealers shop where i buy used marine stuff, and he has about 200 new teleflex cables still in the box of varying lengths. How do i find out what i need? i looked in a yanmar catalog, but cant find any part numbers. its on a 4jhe 44hp model, in a 40' hunter legend. I dont know how much cables normally cost, but these are priced from $15-25. is that good. lengths from 10'-16' is what i saw, but i didnt look at every box. i only see black cables and a couple blue ones on the shelf. the ones on my boat are black and red. does it matter? these may not work at all?

Thanks

Price is right

I paid about $80-$90 for a shut off cable a few years ago.

Since you are going tp have to remove the old cable(s) anyway, the best thing to do may be to bring the old cable(s) to the store and match them precisely.

I don't think Yanmar would know where or how your cables are attached on a boat that they did not mfg. You will probably need to contact Hunter or remove the old cables and measure them.

You prices seem very good. Be sure that you know if the cables need to make severe turns, because some of the cables will bind if they are not designed to do this.

Like Don said, you should remove the cables and bring it to the shop to get the right length and end connections. BUT as you remove them, pull 2 lines/cords through as the cable comes out, that way you can use the cord to pull the new cable back in. At the shop suggest you do some testing of the new cables by making say 8-12" loop and test pushing the cable in/out of the sleeve. See if it is smooth. Some Teleflex cable can take very tight bend and still is smooth.
