Yanmar Tach

My Yanmar tach is sticking badly...and I think I need to replace it. But how do I know if it's the tach that needs replacing or the sender on the engine/flywheel?
I will appreciate any feedback from personal experience. I have a Yanmar 4JH4E. Thanks.

In the sop manual there is resistance for the sender, if the resistance is within specs it is fine. Sorry I don’t have easy access to my manual right now. The other is could be dirty connections. The cheap solution is to clean the connections. The tachometer heads are not inexpensive.
