hello - I recently installed a Yanmar SB-8 into my 27' sailboat and I had to modify my existing shifter/throttle control lever assembly a bit to make the seastar 6400bc cable work due to its added 1" of travel compared to the 3300 style. Two questions I have on this motor/transmission setup.
1. The shifting arm on the transmission is very large and seems/feels really heavy duty. It doesn't like to shift very easily. Has anyone ever tried putting a different transmission on these - maybe the one off the 1GM10? It looks pretty similar and has a less intense shifting arm.
2. What type of shifter/throttle lever assembly do most of you who own an SB-8 use? Mine is a pre-morse (Marmac)
controls shift/throttle combined single arm lever that I modified to produce more movement for the longer shifting cable. The only lever I was able to find online that would work for this engine was the Seastar MJB but its pricey.
