I Have a 1978 27 Hunter with a tired 1GM, is a rebuild/overhaul a realistic option if so who does them ?

Anyone will tell you they can but...
I recommend that you only let a certified Yanmar dealer do the work. I have had a couple of friends have NON Yanmar people work on the engine and they are not familiar with the engines so they were not done according to Factory Specs. Find a couple of Yanmar dealers and get prices.
