I'm confused; my service manual indicates SVE8 as the model number. In reading forum articles I see 2GM20, 2QM15, etc. but never an SVE series. Is it a strange coincidence that no one else has an SVE series, or another explanation ?

They are different (and newer) engine models...
The SVE8 (Other similiar models from the period are the SB8 or YSB8)is the 70's vintage 8HP one-cylinder model.
