Anyone know of a place to get one of the new type Yanmar keys? This is not the type that any key ever made fits. Dealer says they want $25 for one... seems outrageous even for a boat part that are typically outrageous anyway. Thanks in advance George

old key vs. new key

See, if you had the old style, you wouldn't be in this predicament! A screwdriver would work!

Key Repl Ripoff

I got one key when I bought our bought last spring so I looked all over the place and did not have any luck. Finally I went to the yanmar dealer and he sold me one . It was precut, in the bag and so was I. Ten bucks and he felt guilty enough to give me an extra key chain.

I just purchased keys from Mack Boring for my Legend 37. According to the people at Mack Boring all of their engines use the same key.

Yanmar Website

George, I am sorry to hear that someone asked $25.00 for the key. SOmmething doesn't sound right. Why don't you try to the Yanmar website for the key. Also, I would let them know who wanted to charge $25 for it. I think you need to let the HOW the name of the dealer, how much you paid for the key. Maybe there is something special about it? We have a 1998 376. The salesman told us it came with two keys. I asked for the second key numerous times. He indicated it was a 3$ item. I am glad now that we persisted! Mike D. Key Rip off

Are you sure this is not the universal key? If it is, I have a couple of spares and I'd be glad to send you one.

Locksmith can Make

If you happen to have at least one key, a competent locksmith can make you one for less than $2 if he has the ABUS 55/60 blanks. Local one did it for me and they work just fine.

Thanks

Found one for $7 at a couple of places, appears to be the non gouging going price. By the way, for those that answered with the $2 keys, I am fairly sure that is the old "any key in the world fits it" Yanmar key, not the new ones that are very strange. Thanks for the info. George
