Yanmar install

Contrary to what I was lead to believe, the yanmar 2GMF is a nice fit
in the Vega. Plenty of room on the sides (more than the original
Volvo) and underneath for oil changes. I have posted a few pics in
the picture section under Vega 1493. I did not have to do any
modifications to the engine beds. Just built a couple adapters with
angle iron and welded on studs and some careful measuring. I used
globe engine mounts. I added an oil drain pipe because I hate trying
to pump out the used oil. There is room for at least a 1 gallon
bucket underneath the engine. Plenty of room for checking oil on the
side. Also, there are pics of the stern bearing and stuffing box.
Bearing is made from UHMWPE rod and the stern bearing fitting was
turned on a lathe to accept that size rod (1 1/4" I believe) and also,
the shaft is standard 1" with a standard stuffing box. Nice fit. Now
I am working on the elctronics, exhaust, and fuel hookup. Trying to
get her in the water by mid May. The engine is a total rebuild by Al
Holzer in Schooner Bay, Wisconsin. Nice to work on the boat, but I'd
rather be sailing.
