I am in the process of installing a new Raritan Hot Water Heater. I only have one question left before completing the install. At present, my Yanmar has a coolant bypass loop at the engine. How can I tell which outlet is engine hot water so I know which hose to run to my new hot water heater exchanger? Appreciate any advice! Thanks, Greg W

Hot water out/in

Hot water will be coming out of the engine and going into the engine pump. It then goes to the heat exchanger on the exhaust manifold. The thermostat housing is the normal place for the water out but results very.

Greg...

on one of my Yanmar shop manual drawings it identifies the bypass port on the thermostat housing as the outlet to the heater and the other end of the bypass connection on the water pump as the return connection for the water heater heat exchanger. This is a more detailed explanation of what Bill said.

I think the reason that they came out with

bypass ports is lawyers. For all of the history of marine water heaters they worked by using engine heat. Well, lawyers had long before reduced home water heaters to tepid temperatures via the lawsuit system so it should follow that a engine heated tank would be next. We mustn't have the little ones hurting themselves when playing with the faucet. If you find that using a bypass system prevents your tank from providing enough hot water for your needs, maybe you can bypass the bypass.

Just replaced...

my leaking hot water heater with a new Force 10 six gallon unit. They now have a valve system that regulates the temp in the water heater by restricting the flow of water in the heat exchanger loop. This new "feature" is shown on P. 486 of the WM catalog. Had to add another foot of hose to the heat exchanger line to make the bend in the new connection location. Damn lawyers!
