Yanmar Glow Plug Issue

I've got twin Yanmar 3JH5E marine engines on my catamaran. Recently, on the starboard engine, when I start it and hit the glow switch, the engine starts right up instead of glowing. These are using keyless starters, so the first step is to turn on the switch, which commences the alarms. Normally the glow switch would not start the engine; it should just activate the glow plug. The glow switch itself has been checked and it is good. There must be a short somewhere. Any advice on where to start my search?

I am guessing,
but my Yanmar has a start up that is keyless too.

But mine has a momentary toggle switch.
Left side for 3 seconds, glow plug..
Right side to start up.

I had a problem with starting and traced down to the Start Up Circuit Board.
I was about to install a new Board, when we found a loose wire connecter.

We simply pushed on that wire connector. Started up immediately.

You might look around your Circuit Board.

Mine had a local start up at the engine, and the remote normal one. Dual start up locations may cause similar problems.

Good Luck...

You do not mention the age of the boat but I would inspect the harness that goes from the control panel to the engine. With hull flexing older boats sometimes chaff the insulation of harness and wiring usually around sharp fiberglass corners.

Yes, the Circuit board is Yellow thing in the upper left corner, with the White plug in connector.
You should be able to pull that white plug off the board [Gently] , clean and inspect the connections, put it back and then try again.

The White Round thing is your Start up and/or remote connection.
That may be part of the issue too.
