My experience in a different boat
I had a Yanmar 2GMF (18 h.p.) in an S2 9.2A and it got over 20 statute miles to the gallon. Obviously, the hull shape, weight, prop, bottom condition and other factors affect this significantly.

Different but similar?
I have a 3YM20 in a Beneteau 31:
Hourly consumption at 2400rpm is about 1.3liters/hr in calm water. Translated into US measures this would be 0.346USgal/hr or about 20 statute miles per US gallon. I have the standard 3 blade prop and the boat has a clean bottom.
About the same as Agaliha.
If yours is vastly different it could be caused by all sorts of variables...

MPG makes little sense in sailboat fuel consumption measurement unless you're on a lake.
What you need to know is gallons per hour. Our 21 hp M25 gets better than 1/2 gallon per hour.
Start measuring your own fuel consumption the next few times you refill your tank.
