Just a short question, can you buy a rebuild kit for the fuel pump?
I have a 3GMF20, but that fuel pump fits many engines.

Thanks in advance!

i haven't found one so just bought one of ebay that fits a tractor...on the tractor pump i had to take the base for the diafram off and turn it 180 Degrees so the pipe matched the flow that's the only thing different about it

I just put in an electric pump. It will pump right past the old one without any modification. Makes priming a snap.

i have the electric pump too....i only run it when i am bleeding the system....reason why is if you break the diafram in the mechanical pump it will pull fuel in the the crank case and could cause a runaway ...the mechanical pump will pull the fuel through the electric just fine

I poked around trying to find a rebuild kit and never found one. Pretty sure ya either put in an electric or buy the Yanmar complete pump.. Somewhere, maybe in a galaxy far, far away, here are several Japanese cars (I'd bet a cold Tin Roof beer on it) which used that pump back in the days when there were carburetors.. I can't find enough info to figure out which call out would be correct; '69 Datsun PL 510? Toyota Corolla? Subaru 360? or..??
They don't fail often, but when they do, the results can be ...uuuhhh... interesting.

Are there any other reasons (beside facilitating bleeding the system) to install an electric pump for a 3GM30F Yanmar. I have a friend with a new-to-him boat that has one, and he was told to run the electric fuel pump all the time.

If you ran the electric pump all the time while running the engine, and it blew the diaphragm in the lift pump on the engine, what would the symptoms be (if any) during engine operation?

I have taken apart my pump 2GMF to examine the possibility to do a rebuild. This is what I found! Yes! you can rebuild the pump if the following is true.. 1. Check the ARM for a lot of wear on contact with engine. 2. Make sure you are able! to depress arm and hold while you place new diaphragm in place and secured in place with the two halves bolted and secured before releasing the pump arm. You can NOT just put diaphragm in and screw the top on and away you go. the diaphragm has to be made flat or it won't work properly.

Electrical fuel pumps! First I recommend you determine the output from your existing fuel pumps flow(PSI) rate is before adding an electric fuel pump in. If the fuel pump calls for 5PSI then the pump should be rated 5PSI and not less then. Problem is, that most pumps have a range of 3-5PSI and some 4-6psi and etc. at a minimum you want what Yanmar specs call for as a PSI pressure for the engine. So this means you can not just put in a 10psi and hope this works properly and will not oversupply fuel to the high pressure pump for injectors. So really the fuel LIFTER is as it states.. Just making sure the fuel is there and available at LOW pressure for the high pressure pumps. Hope this helps! Capt. Rob

Woodster! Good idea, What is the pump your using for this? Type, Brand, PSI rate, costs etc.. Thanks Capt Rob

you could have a runaway engine if it pumped enough fuel in the crankcase

Thanks for all the reply's, I have done the electric pump installation 10 years ago, it saved me when the Yanmar pump . failed, and also for bleeding the fuel system in Fall when I replace the filters. I kept the old fuel pump to possibly re build as a spare. I will check with the local farm and garden dealer for possible rebuild parts.
