Sailors, Just had an intersting conversation with the mechanic fixing my engine. He has by passed raco water seperator and said i don't need it and the engine is 100%. Is this true? Also where can i get a new raco water seperator and at what price? Is this something i could install myself. please advise.

Every diesel needs a water sprerator

All diesel engines need a water separator. They are usually part of the primary fuel filter. If you have a primary fuel filter with a screw on the bottom where you can let the accumulated water out then you don't really need a device who's primary purpose is to separate out water as the fuel filter will be sufficient.

Depending on size of engine . . . .

It looks like from a previous post of yours, you have a Yanmar single cylinder (?). If so, a Racor 110 or 120 will do just fine w/ a 30 micron element. These can be bought from Defender for ~ $100. Is the one bypassed still there? Which model? You may just be able to replace the element for $10 - 20 if the housing was left in the fuel circuit.
