Yanmar elbow replacement question

I am currently trying to replace the exhaust elbow on my 81' H30. I believe that the current one is original. I have unbolted the flange, and removed the exhaust hose clamps, but the exhaust hose is firmly attached to the elbow due to the years. I tried to cut the exhaust hose with a utility knife, but there is a metal layer in the hose that is "hindering" my progress. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove this exhaust hose (I plan on replacing it)?

WD40 & a screw driver.

Fred:I found the same problem when I did my exhaust elbow. I found that squirting some WD40 around the edges of the hose (let it sit for several minutes) and then use a screw driver toseperate the hose from the elbow. You may need to apply some more WD40 as you seperate the pieces. The hose has a spring steel coil in it. You should be careful cutting this hose unless there is a lot of excess. The hose us expensive and usually difficult to replace.

if there is enuf wiggle room

If there is enough 'wiggle room', i.e., sufficient hose left over, cut the 3" off the end with a hacksaw. As long as you are doing the job, order all three parts from torrensen or whomever and replace everything from the block exhaust to the hose. Better yet, if the boat is that old, replace the hose as well. Do it all now, because it will be good practice when you do it all again in 2006 or 2007. joe

dremmel and cutting wheel

of course this will cut through stainless, so you don't want to go crazy, but I have found this to be very useful...cutting bolts, SS tubing, etc.
