The "official" Yanmar wiring does not have a green wire and no gauge, only an over-temp warning lamp.. Attached is the 3GMF wiring.
It would be kinda normal to have a temperature sender for a gauge in the coolant outlet/thermostat housing. Shown here the "C.W. Temp Switch" in the diagram .. the green topped switch right by where the hose has "5/8" written on it..

Thanks for the quick reply .. I meant the sensor has a green color end code .. Have the diagram but having trouble with the trace ..I was seeing maybe goes to the water temp gauge .. Perhaps by way of the Hanes "connector " where
-as I see an open hole in the connector ?
Thanks

Dunno, the White/Blue wire goes through two connectors.. One is on the engine. usually, aft port side.. the other close to the panel.. The white/blue goes to the temp warning lamp in the panel. Picture is the connector at the engine. The whiteish thing to the right of the green fuse holder..

The sensor (temp sensitive resistor) or over temp switch (bi-metal spring) are both grounded to the engine. The single wire from each goes to the panel. To tell which you are looking at you need a multimeter set to measure resistance (ohms). The switch will show infinite ohms all the time, the sensor will have a high but not infinite, resistance when the engine is cold. Once you know which type you have (do you even have a gauge BTW?) the wire goes to that gauge or idiot light. I'd not worry about the routing as long as the wire colors match on each end.
