My Yanmar is a fresh water cooling system.

Is there a difference between the fresh water impeller and the raw water impeller or are the both the same?

TIA

Bill, the "fresh" water impeller is actually in coolant and is a cast iron impeller kinda like on a car engine. The raw water impeller is the one that pumps water from outside the boat through the heat exchanger and out the exhaust pipe. This is the little impeller with flexible rubber vanes. I believe that the Yanmar part number for the rubber impeller is 124223-42092

Spare

A spare impeller is highly recommended, along with the tools and ability to change same. Couple years ago I had a new Yanmar impeller spin the hub. It had less than 10 hours on it.
