Yanmar 3GM30F exhaust water temp

During a 30 minute test run prior to installing in our T30. I found the water exiting the exhaust not hot ‍. We were idling
@ 1100 +~ . Our well water feed temp is probably around 50 degrees. The heat exchanger has been rebuilt. She sounded great & did not seem to be too hot. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance

What temperature was the exhaust water? Considering that the engine is in the open it runs cool. It would run hotter if it was enclosed as it is on a boat.

Exhausted water temperature is highly dependent on engine load.. The thermostat will hold the engine block temp up around 160-180 F but it will reject very little heat to the exchanger.. With an inlet temp of 50F, the outlet would be less than 100.. a good bit less. The caveat here is that the cooling cannot be tested effectively without loading the engine ..

The exhaust water was tepid. Slightly warmer than our well water which here in Mid coast Maine is probably around 50 degrees.

I found the water exiting the exhaust not hot ‍.

Is the water you refer to, coming from the heat exchanger discharge or from the mixing elbow discharge ? The water and exhaust gasses mixed would be somewhat warmer.

As previously mentioned, not much info here until the engine runs under heavy load.

She sounded great & did not seem to be too hot.

Do you have an IR gun to check for temps. around the thermostat ?

FWIW, with my 2GM 20F at 2800 RPM, the sea water coming from the heat exchanger is cool to the touch and the water coming from the mixing elbow is roughly skin temperature. The engine temperature shows 180° F.

Same with my 2GM20F….i expected really hot water out of the exhaust (my potable hot water warmed by the engine scalding)…..but the exhaust water out of the stern was tepid.
