The manual says to use 30 or 40 weight for my climate, but I've found many sources on the internet say to use 15W-40, which is what I think I used on my last oil change. Is 15W-40 ok to use?
I believe that the original manuals suggested 30 wt for the 2GM engine. They have since changed to allow 15W-40. We have been using the multigrade for several years based on this updated information.
If you have any doubts, I would contact a local distributor.
The diesel specific oils that are 15-40 or the synthetic 5-40 oils are perfect for that engine.. They have more anti wear additives and are formulated for the additional soot that diesels make that gets into the oil.. Shell Rotella T oils (available at Wal Mart) and the other major brands of 15-40 are fine.
