I am trying to figure out what my rpm operating range should be. Does anyone know of a link to the 2gm 13 specifications?

Thanks,

KH

You'll probably get lots of advice about operating your engine at 80% of its max rpms. But to me, I think the key is really finding your particular engine's "sweet spot." That is where you optimize speed, noise, vibration, and fuel usage. Motor out on a calm day with flat water, get up to 6 - 6.5 kts of boat speed, and tune in to what your engine is doing and telling you. My guess is that your optimum rpm range will be a couple hundred rpms on either side of what you were pulling that day.

The 2GMF I have on my C&C 29-II has a max rpm of 3400 stamped on a plate on the engine. Cruising RPM as stated in earlier posts is a function of prop size, pitch, boat weight, wtted surface, and sea state. In flat water, I achieve hull speed (6.4) at 2600 rpm which is slightly below 80%. The engine seems very happy around 2400 rpm for long periods of time.

I think that all the GM Yanmars are rated max hp at 3400 RPM. While many or most think that 80% is the proper way to run them, and I am not saying that they are wrong. But I have to agree about the "sweet spot" as mentioned in another post. My 3GM likes to run at around 24 to 2500. While that is a little below the 80% number, thats where everything seems to come together and it seems to run best at this RPM.

I like to run at about 75 percent of hull speed. Above that the horsepower/speed ratio goes very high.
