Question for those sailors with a 1982 Hunter 27' with a 1gm yanmar- moving forward what's your usual rpm reading when at full throttle? And when in neutral can you push a higher reading?

Full throttle should be around 3200 + rpm's

Lyn: The 1GM is rated at 3600 RPM max and 3200 RPM continous. Normal operating range is 2500-3000 RPM. You should be able to rev the engine to about 3400-3600+ in neutral and max out around 3200 RPM in gear. This is making some assumptions. Correct/Clean Prop, Clean bottom, properly operating engine.........

Lyn, I don't have your model engine but according to Yanmar Diesel Direct the continious rating at the crankshaft is 3400 rpm and 3600 rpm maximum.

Thanks Guys!

Thanks for the feedback Steve, my little engine seems to be running fine then! Happy sailing!

I just had this same question

I also have an '82 Hunter with a Yanmar 1GM. Yesterday when I took her out, I couldn't get her past 2200 RPMs. But after 5-6 hours of sailing in 15-20 knots of wind with 3-5+ foot waves, I got the usual 3300 RPMs coming back to the dock. I suspect the bottom and the prop just needed a good cleaning.

I agree with

all the previous responses. We run at about 3200 at full throttle, but can achieve 3600+ in neutral. Same boat, same engine.
