I'm not in the market right now, but were I, I would value such a thread and I suspect anyone looking for one at the moment would as well. Here are some of the questions I would ask. I'm sure others can contribute much more. I imagine some have been answered in other threads, but perhaps enough data can be consolidated here that it might become sticky,,,able? :D

What are all the models and their features, which were available stateside? I am in Japan and would not mind attempting to contact Yamaha to get information that I could combine into a data base.

How are they constructed. I'm not knowledgeable enough in boat construction to even suggest a this or that. If someone can explain the various techniques, the merits and shortcomings of each and which models were built what way which would subsequently draw a conclusion from the previous discussion about the characteristics of them, that would be invaluable to a buyer. (long sentence is long)

They should discuss engineering particulars like, hull core material, mat thickness and gel coat ruggedness, bolt on keel, cabin-stepped or keel-stepped masts, rudder design, etc.

A discussion of the various engines employed, where they are mounted, the merits of, and maintenance issues for each. This could similarly be put into a comparative list format when all data is rounded up. I always see Yanmars under the engine covers.

People who own or have inspected Yams could share their experiences and perhaps others could chime in on them. If several people are seeing the same thing, we have a designed in situation and buyers should be aware of it. Perhaps only one model has a particular penchant for a certain malady. Either way, information is power and it helps a buyer avoid problems, or at least go into the buy with a full awareness of the commitment ahead.

Thoughts?

His is the best out there as far as I have found, but I think we can go even further with it.

Yamaha 25, 33, 37 San Diego
Hello group members:

I was sent a link to New Japan Yacht's website and contacted them regarding my upgrading of Sarah V, my 1985 Yamaha 37.

The day after, I received a nice email where they informed me they had forwarded my info and request to Yamaha Japan and would be contacted in a few days.

I will find out what support they still have and post updates.

Regards,

Ed Serra
