How are people corralling the mainsail on the 25 when reefing or dropping the main when the sail comes out of the slot?

Do you use lazyjacks or a stackpack?

Has anybody sewn on slugs for the slot instead of the leading edge boltrope?

Use a "sail stop" to prevent the sail head from exiting the track.

Your local sailmakers should be able to make you up a custom lazy bag and jacks quite inexpensively (it's a relatively small main on this vintage compared to modern boats). I think mine cost about US$500 a couple of years ago for the Y33 when I got new sails. To ensure the sail goes up and down the track, you'll need slugs instead of the boltrope. This works well on my regular rig Y33. My friend has the tallrig Y33 and has batcars which go up and down even quicker. A couple of thin stainless plates screwed onto the mast across the "gate" will ensure the slugs don't pop out.

The "lazy" set-up, complete with roller furling headsail and a tiller pilot makes short- or single-handing my boat so easy.

How do you stop the head from exiting without stopping the boltrope??

Even if you could stop the head you would still have sail all over everywhere.

Is that how you work it? I am curious about the standard way that 25II is configured these days. I am not a fan of the bolt rope but it does make a cleaner leading edge.

If everybody has gone over to slugs then I would like to know that.

I have a Yamaha 26 Tall Rig. Rigging and controlling the main on the 26 or 25 would be virtually identical.
Most boats use slugs as they are far more convenient to use than a bolt rope. It is far easier to raise , lower and reef the sails with slugs than with a bolt rope. If you adjust your halyard tension (and other sail control lines) properly for the wind condition and sailing angle you will still achieve a proper leading edge. It is a matter of installing the correct number of slugs and the correct tension. Keep the slugs lightly lubricated and the sail will raise and lower quite easily. I have full battens on my North main and use lazy jacks. I have figured out a way to deal with the lazy jacks without cutting openings in the sail cover which makes sailing with lazy jacks far easier to deal with. I will post a few images when I get a chance.
